From November 1 to 23, 2023, Dr. Nakano Makibi (Core Researcher, National Institutes for the Humanities, Toyo University) conducted in the survey at Makassar and Pinrang in South Sulawesi, and Banggai Islands in Central Sulawesi. In Makassar, she visited an octopus processing factory and investigated the market and economic trends surrounding octopus, which has been actively traded in the coastal areas of Sulawesi in recent year.
In the Banggai Islands, she interviewed octopus fishermen and brokers about their fishing gear and methods.
