From September 6 to 10, 2023, Prof. Nagatsu Kazufumi (Representative of Toyo University Site), Prof. Ota Atsushi (Keio University), Dr. Nakano Makibi (Core Researcher, National Institutes for the Humanities, Toyo University) , and Dr. Benny Baskara (Haluoleo University, Indonesia) participated in the survey at Buton Island and Muna island, Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia.
In Buton Island, we visited Fort Wolio, which was built by the Buton Kingdom, and the Wolio Cultural Center, where photos and artifacts of past sultans are on display. In Muna Island, we visited the Bharugano Wuna Museam, which exhibits photos and artifacts related to past kings of the Muna Kingdom, and also visited the Bangko village, where many Bajau people live, to conduct interviews regarding fishing activities, linguistic characteristics, and rituals.
