From September 16-19, 2022, Dr. Nakano Makibi (Research Associate and Core Researcher in Toyo University Research Site, NIHU) conducted a field survey on maritime communities in Sendai, Ishinomaki, and Kesennuma, Miyagi prefecture.

Arahama Elementary School in Arahama, Wakabayashi-ku, Sendai City, was left as a relic of the earthquake after it was closed, with fresh scars that tell the power of the tsunami.

In Namiita district, Ogatsu-cho, Ishinomaki City, She interviewed with Mr. Kosuke Furuta, a disaster vitcim support coordinator who has been involved in reconstruction assistance after the earthquake.

In Ogatsu-cho, where is famous for the birthplace of inkstones, Ogatsu stone, population decline and aging are among the issues facing the community.

Namiita-Labo (Namiita Community Exchange Center) aims to maintain the community and revitalize the area while increasing the number of people interacting with each other.
