From September 6th to 7th, 2022, a field survey was conducted in Palu, Indonesia, to assess the damage and reconstruction process. Prof. Nagatsu Kazufumi (Representative of Toyo University Site), and Dr. Nakano Makibi (Core Researcher, National Institutes for the Humanities, Toyo University) participated in the survey.
The city of Palu was hit by the 7.5 magnitude Sulawesi earthquake on September 28th, 2018, and suffered large-scale liquefaction damage unprecedented in the world.
The coastal area of Palu Bay still bears the vivid remains of the earthquake, and in some liquefied areas, houses and mosques were almost half buried under soil and sand.
